Somebody is there! You ask to speak with Karl, but she says it is not possible.
You tell her that in some recordings, you can hear Karl’s subdued voice, muttering words, sometimes counting. It is as if his voice exists on another layer than the animal voices, as if they were recorded separately, on two different tracks. She informs you that different sounds are processed in different parts of your brain and before you even know what is said, language is recognized as language, words are recognized as words and when somebody slams the door you can feel it in your whole body.
“What about other types of noise?”. You eagerly describe the rain and wind as it blows through the grass and bushes… the footsteps.
