As his wife, his recorder was faithful towards Andy Warhol’s own idea of listening.

Andy Warhol was interested in the so called Human Sound, the sound of conversations and the music that people were distractedly listening to, or even not listening to, in public and collective spaces. He wanted noise. He wanted wet sounds and leakage. He admired his recorder for its ability to ignore the semantics and meanings that might be lurking in the sound. But - and this strikes you as a paradox, even though Andy Warhol ignored what people were actually saying, even though he was merely treating their voices as background noise - they still liked to be recorded by him!

Perhaps they did not have so much to say. Perhaps they just liked the attention in itself.
